JCP Construction LLC, founded by three Phelps brothers in Milwaukee in 2008, landed its biggest job as a general contractor building the $9.5 million Bader Philanthropies Inc. headquarters.
It’s rare for minority-owned builders like JCP Construction to be the lead contractor on projects of that size, and president James Phelps anticipates the experience will open more opportunities in the future. The Bader headquarters will start construction in April at 3318 N. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive for completion in summer 2018.
“It shows what we are able to do, our capabilities, and also allows us to grow our expertise,” Phelps said.
Bader has made grants and program-related investments of about $20 million in that neighborhood of Milwaukee, and is moving its headquarters there to strengthen its work in that area. It is among several Milwaukee projects that emphasizes minority participation as local officials attempt to make the real estate boom create neighborhood job opportunities.
