How We Age in Door County
What does it mean to grow older? As a professional, what would it take to put yourself in an older adult’s shoes?
Marc Agronin, M.D., sought to find out the hidden treasures of age (and even Alzheimer’s disease) by delving into family relationships, personal histories, and challenging our common understandings of what it means to grow old.
Dr. Agronin weaves his own perspectives on aging with personal accounts from his patients and their families. He conveys valuable lessons of life from his studies, interviews with actress Julie Newmar and Senator George McGovern, as well as the perspectives of everyday people who teach us what it means to grow old. Having grown up near Appleton, Dr. Agronin also weaves in the experience of his own family.
Dr. Agronin is a board-certified Adult and Geriatric Psychiatrist, is the Medical Director for Mental Health and Clinical Research at Miami Jewish Health Systems. His latest book is How We Age: A Doctor’s Journey into the Heart of Growing Old.
Our conversation will be kicked off by Roger Tepe of the Door County Department of Human Services, who will bring the local perspective on how older adults are being served, and the County’s vision for the future for reaching one of the state’s fastest-growing older adult populations.
Lunch will be served. There is no charge, but space is limited. RSVP by March 28 to Kim Thao: email@example.com or (414) 755-4367
( Come early: The event is preceded by a community healthy aging fair, starting at 10:30. )
