The Helen Bader School of Social Welfare’s Office of Applied Gerontology is presenting a virtual workshop as part of the 2023 World Elder Abuse Awareness Day June 8 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. The workshop will look at the ethical considerations in working with vulnerable older adults. One focus of the workshop will be exploring ethical dilemmas that occur in balancing protection of an older adult from harm while respecting individual freedoms. Participants will also explore the use of the label for vulnerable older adults in adult protective services situations.
Presenters are: Ann Laatsch, justice system coordinator, National Clearinghouse on Abuse in Later Life; Colleen Galambos, Helen Bader Endowed Chair in Applied Gerontology at UWM; Dinah LaCaze, APS Prevention Program coordinator, Milwaukee County Aging and Disabilities Services; Rujeko Machinga, doctoral student, College of Social Work, University of Kentucky.
