The Milwaukee Ballet is ensuring access to ballet and dance through their flagship community engagement programs: Relevé, Tour de Force, and Ballet Beat. Their in-studio training program, Relevé (which means “to rise”) spans 3rd through 5th grade, offering 20 weeks of ballet instruction during the school day for students at three Milwaukee schools. Students receive all needed supplies like shoes and transportation at no cost to the student or school. Milwaukee Ballet’s Tour de Force offers adaptive ballet classes for children with a variety of disabilities. They also provide an annual sensory-friendly performance of The Nutcracker. Lastly, Ballet Beat is a free month-long event, including a series of free workshops and performances, with two culminating outdoor shows across the greater Milwaukee area in July. Milwaukee Ballet strives to create spaces where people can experience ballet for the first time or fall in love with the art form all over again.
