In fall 2024, the Bader Philanthropies Board of Directors approved a new Youth Development strategy focused on hope. Through our grantmaking, we aim to increase hope among youth ages 24 and younger throughout the City of Milwaukee. This approach incorporates the Children’s Hope Scale, an evidence-based tool that measures how hope helps young people overcome challenges, set goals, and reach their potential. Hope is a measurable psychological construct reflecting motivation and perceived ability to achieve goals. It includes two components:

  • Agency — belief in one’s capacity to initiate and sustain action
  • Pathways — ability to identify routes to achieve goals

By investing in the transformative power of hope, the Foundation seeks to foster resilience, strengthen optimism, and position young people for success. Learn more here.
